Our Vision

With the community at its heart; supported by traditional values and a strong outlook, The Bolsover School sets high aspirations for all students, enabling individuals to fulfill their potential within our dynamic 21st century society.

Sports Day 2014

This year's Sports Day will be taking place on Wednesday 16th July 2014. This is a whole day event and all students will be taking part at some point, therefore they will not be required to be in school uniform. They will however need to be appropriately dressed in their full school PE kit.

The day itself will start and finish at the normal school times. On the grounds of health and safety we are trialling this year's sports day without parent spectators.

Booking of Holidays

The Department for Education make clear that Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are "exceptional circumstances".

In exceptional circumstances, a request for absence must be made in advance, to the Headteacher, who will inform you of the decision prior to booking your holiday. If a request for leave is not authorised by the Headteacher and the student goes on holiday, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised which could result in a penalty fee. Holidays therefore should not be booked during term time as a matter of course.

If you wish the Headteacher to consider a request please submit the request well in advance of the planned holiday and before any firm booking is made. You will then be informed of the Headteacher's decision. However, in most cases permission will be refused.

Please refer to the School Calendar before you book a holiday.

The holidays are also listed on the Derbyshire County Council website.

In addition to the holidays listed we will be allocated 5 Inset days in each academic year. These are notified at the beginning of the year and will therefore not appear on the calendar until nearer the time.

School Library?

Our School library is so much more than a place for books so we call it the Learning Resources Centre (LRC). We are open daily and have over 7000 items for students to use.

In the Careers Resources section we have information that will help our students make the right choices for their futures.

To help with homework we run an after-school Homework Club every day except Friday from 3:00pm until 4:25pm.
