Welcome to
The Bolsover School
Summer Event Is Postponed
Unfortunately, due to the weather forecast, we have had to postpone the Summer Event planned for Saturday 18th May. We plan to reschedule this event for a future day.
Pupil Admission Numbers – September 2013
Following negotiation with the Local Authority, agreement has been reached for The Bolsover School to accept students above our Pupil Admission Number (PAN) for September 2013. Our PAN is the limit we are given for pupil intake each year. When we go above our PAN, we would normally go to appeals before we could accept students. Our PAN is currently 170 but we have negotiated with the Authority to accept a further 5 pupils.
Year 7 School Admissions – September 2013
Parents with a child currently in Year 6 at primary school will now have received confirmation about which secondary school their child has been allocated for September 2013. All secondary schools have also received the same information.
Every place at the Bolsover School for September 2013 in Year 7 has been allocated up to our official capacity.
If you have not secured a place at the Bolsover School and would like to still be considered, please feel free to contact Mrs Whittaker – Head Teacher’s PA on 01246 822105 extension 11430.
Please note; parents have the right to appeal against the decision, if they have been unsuccessful in securing a place at the school of their choice. Written appeals should be submitted to Derbyshire County Council by 28th March 2013 and will normally be heard by 17 June 2013.
For more information and guidance on how to make an appeal please click here.
If parents would like to discuss any aspect of their child’s secondary school place or would like any guidance on how to make an appeal please contact Mrs Whittaker using the details shown above
Booking of Holidays
Authorisation for term-time holidays is not permitted without the prior approval of the Headteacher but it should be noted that authorisation will only be granted in exceptional circumstances and holidays should therefore not be booked during term time as a matter of course.
If you wish the Headteacher to consider a request please submit the request well in advance of the planned holiday and before any firm booking is made. You will then be informed of the Headteacher's decision. However, in most cases permission will be refused.
Please refer to the School Calendar before you book a holiday.
The holidays are also listed on the Derbyshire County Council website.
In addition to the holidays listed we will be allocated 5 Inset days in each academic year. These are notified at the beginning of the year and will therefore not appear on the calendar until nearer the time.
Our Vision
With the community at its heart; supported by traditional values and a strong outlook, The Bolsover School sets high aspirations for all students, enabling individuals to fulfill their potential within our dynamic 21st century society.

Easter Blog
Firstly may I take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Easter, although as I look out of my office onto the snowy verges it seems Merry Christmas might be more appropriate. We have no staff leaving us this term, although our best wishes go to Ms Douglas and her husband for the imminent arrival [...]
Read MoreSchool Library?
Our School library is so much more than a place for books so we call it the Learning Resources Centre (LRC). We are open daily and have over 7000 items for students to use.
In the Careers Resources section we have information that will help our students make the right choices for their futures.
To help with homework we run an after-school Homework Club every day except Friday from 3:00pm until 4:25pm.
